Knotbook is a paid product. This page is for people who use it — if you are looking for the engineering handbook, see CONTRIBUTING.md.
Public beta
Knotbook 1.0.0-beta.1 is a public beta. It is under active development and may have defects. Your notes are markdown files in a folder you chose, so an ordinary file backup protects them completely — please keep one.
Beta feedback goes to the same address as everything else below. The issue tracker is private, so you will not be able to open an issue there.
Getting help
For how to use Knotbook, start with the user guide. It covers workspaces, writing and linking notes, search, import and export, keyboard shortcuts and settings.
Email support@spyxpo.com. To get a useful answer on the first reply, include:
- Version and platform — Settings → Updates (e.g.
1.0.0-beta.1, macOS 15, Apple Silicon). - The log file, if something crashed or vanished — Settings → Diagnostics →
Show in folder. Paths inside it are shortened to
~, so it does not carry your user name or folder names. It is the difference between a bug we can fix and one we can only sympathise with. - How you installed it —
.dmg,.deb,.rpm,.AppImage, or the Windows installer. - What you expected, and what happened instead. A screenshot of the actual error text beats a description of it.
- Roughly how big your workspace is (number of notes, whether it has large PDFs). Several classes of bug only appear at size.
We aim to reply within 2 business days.
Licenses, payments, and refunds
For anything touching money — a payment that went through but produced no license key, activation failures, hitting the device limit, or a refund request — email support@spyxpo.com with:
- The email address used at checkout.
- The Razorpay order or payment ID from your receipt.
- The last 4 characters of your license key, if you have one.
Do not post a full license key in a GitHub issue or anywhere public.
Your data
Your notes are plain markdown files in the folder you chose. They are not held hostage by a subscription or a database: if Knotbook stops working for you tomorrow, the files open in any text editor. Knotbook's search index lives separately in your OS app-data directory and is derived — deleting it costs you nothing but a reindex.
What Knotbook talks to over the network
PRIVACY.md has the full table. Short version: notes, search, indexing, and the graph are entirely local; update checks, licensing, KnotAI model downloads and web results, collaboration, and RSS reach the network only where you opt in — and the app asks before it makes its first call at all.
